Wreath campaign ends with rise in fires

11 red bulbs highest amount since 2002

Despite the efforts of Wood County firefighters to get the fire safety message out to the public, this year's Keep the Wreath Green wreath program had the largest number of red bulbs in 10 years.

The wreathes ended the year with 11 red bulbs, each representing a structure fire in Wood County that occurred between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve. It's the highest count since there were 13 structure fires during that time period in 2002.

The high number of fires during this year's program demonstrates that fire danger is real and should be a concern for everyone, Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department ...
