? The village of Kronenwetter recently redesigned its website to make it more user friendly. The village of Weston plans to do the same, but Weston is going about it a little differently from its neighbor.

The village of Weston is a finalist in a national website redesign contest held by CivicPlus, a company that creates and designs government websites. The winner will be announced Jan. 21 and receive a free custom-designed website along with three days of training.

Should Weston win the contest, village officials hope the redesigned site will enhance community engagement and communication between residents and government.

? K-9 officer Zander joined the ranks at the Kronenwetter Police Department in October, and other south metro municipalities soon will follow suit.

Everest Metro's K-9 officer, Lord, will retire in 2013 after 10 years of service in Weston and Schofield alongside partner Sgt. Rob Dickerson. Officer Matt Krembs will replace Dickerson as the new K-9's partner and the Everest Metro Police Department will soon begin fundraising to buy and train a new dog by fall 2013.

Police departments in the Wausau area rely on K-9 officers to combat illegal drug activity and search for missing people.

? Finally, a big shout out to everyone I've met and worked with in Wausau's south metro area. In the four short months I've worked with the local municipalities, schools and businesses, I've met many great people who genuinely care about the community in which they live. I'm proud to tell your stories, and honored you trust me to tell them each week.
