West Bend's Matt and Kim Handeland were expecting to spend New Year's Eve watching movies, but Trenton Leo had other plans. Originally due to arrive on Jan.17, Trenton Leo Handeland became Beaver Dam Community Hospitals' first baby of 2013.

Cindy Stippich, certified nursing midwife, delivered him at 2 a.m. on New Year's Day. Trenton weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces and was 20.5 inches long. He joins brother Austin Posthuma, 16, at home.

The newborn baby and his beaming parents received a bountiful basket of gifts to honor the occasion as the 2013 BDCH New Year Baby. Included in the basket were assorted baby clothing, a baby blanket, infant toys, a $50 Beaver Dam Chamber of Commerce gift certificate, a handprint kit and photo album, and a six-month supply of diapers.

"The timing was quite a surprise and from the moment we checked in, our care has been wonderful and everybody has been great," said mother Kim.
