Dylon Pokorny recently received the 2012 Wisconsin Honey Producers Association (WHPA), Outstanding Youth Award.

Pokorny began beekeeping in April 2010, when his grandpa purchased him his first hive. Since then, Dylon has grown his business to seven hives. He has developed a client base; and directly sells both honey and creamed honey to his customers.

Pokorny attends educational seminars, reads publications and uses trial-and-error to grow his beekeeping knowledge and skills. Dylon gives numerous demonstrations and educational talks throughout the year and is co-editor of the Dodge/Jefferson Beekeepers Association monthly newsletter.

"I like beekeeping, it is rewarding and challenging. The more you learn, the more questions you have," states Pokorny. Dylon is a member of the Dane County Beekeepers Association; the Dodge/Jefferson Beekeepers Association; and the Wisconsin Honey Producers Association. In addition, he is a member of the Dodge County 4-H and Waupun FFA where he is involved in the beekeeping project.

Dylon is the son of Doyle and Kim Pokorny of Waupun.
