As of Dec. 28, the Fond du lac Area United Way has raised 87 percent of their $735,000 campaign goal - for a total of $639,450.
We are so thankful to everyone who has contributed to our annual campaign so far this year," said Tina Potter, United Way executive director
Naturally we want to be at 100 percent of our goal by the end of December but we need $103,000 more to reach it.
We expect the majority of what's left to come in yet, but we are also projecting a $35,000 campaign shortfall due to decreases in our other division giving.
"A shortfall of $35,000 could mean the difference of not being able to fully fund a program that helps children and youth out of poverty, or a program that supports resources needed by our elderly or disabled populations. Sadly, it also results in agencies with waiting lists of families and individuals who need help but can't get it because of an under-funded program.
The good news is that there is still time to accept donations," said Potter. The Board of Directors meets mid-January to make their allocation decisions and any donations that come in by Jan. 15, will be used for programs operated in 2013. Donations that are made after Dec. 31 must also be claimed at the end of 2013.
Though $35,000 is a reachable amount for a community like Fond du Lac. There are donors out there who can close this gap for us and help the community.
About 34,000 men, women, children and youth are projected to be helped through grants submitted to United Way for 2013 funding. That represents about one-in-four people in the county who will be helped in programs funded by United Way. Allocations in 2012 ranged from $3,000 to $50,000 for a total of 26 local programs that align with Building a Supportive, Healthy and Educated community impact.
