The Packers had high hopes for defensive end Jerel Worthy when they drafted him in the second round out of Michigan State in Aprilís draft.
Though Worthy had 2Ĺ sacks, he didnít make the kind of impact the Packers had hoped this season and now that he has sustained a season-ending left knee injury, which is believed to be a torn ACL that will require reconstructive surgery, Worthy is going to miss the entire offseason program.
That means he will miss time that would have been geared toward his development.
Because Worthy was hurt so late in the season -- in the regular-season finale at Minnesota -- he might not even be ready for the start of training camp or the beginning of the 2013 regular season.
ďJerel had a typical rookie year,Ē Packers defensive line coach Mike Trgovac said. ďItís difficult in this defense to do what we do compared to what he did at Michigan State. Thereís a transition period going from that defense to this defense, so Jerelís going to be fine. Heís going to be a good player. He made some impact plays for us. He needs to button down his game and get going and learn the total game.Ē
