The Green Bay Packers have seen the last of Christian Ponder for this season.
After being listed as questionable with a lingering elbow injury sustained in last Sunday’s 37-34 win over the Packers, the second-year Minnesota Vikings quarterback is inactive for tonight’s game. Joe Webb will start in his place.
A third-year quarterback out of UAB, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound Webb has three career starts in 17 appearances, completing 88-of-152 passes (57.9 percent) for 853 yards, three touchdowns and five interceptions. He’s only taken one snap this year though.
Ponder suffered a bruised right elbow on a hit by Packers safety Morgan Burnett in last Sunday’s regular-season finale. Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said Thursday he expected Ponder to play, but his status was a hot topic throughout Saturday.
The Packers inactives include wide receivers Donald Driver and Jarrett Boykin (ankle), cornerback Davon House (shoulder), running back James Starks (knee), linebacker Frank Zombo, and defensive linemen Jordan Miller and Jerel Worthy (knee).
DuJuan Harris will start at running back in place of Alex Green. Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield (broken hand) is active. Minnesota’s other inactives include wide receiver Stephen Burton, cornerback Brandon Burton, linebacker Tyrone McKenzie, guard Troy Kropog, and defensive linemen D’Aundre Reed and George Johnson.
