Quality of life worth 'a couple million bucks'

If I lived downwind (hey, I dolive downwind from the shiny, new, garbage-burning plant), I'd hail Tom DeWane and the citizens of Mather for protecting their fellow neighbors, their investment, their property, their health.

If I lived up in Ledgeview, I wouldn't care where people burned garbage (as long as it was not in Rockland). Paul Linzmeyer opined in the Thursday's Press Gazette: "I can state with complete conviction that there's no sensible explanation for the current dilemma the council put us in."

Here's a halfway decent explanation for your current dilemma: Your neighbors on the east side (west side, too), don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows. It doesn't blow toward Ledgeview or Oneida. Period.

NIMBY may not be the explanation you seek, but may help you make some sense, Paul. PS: Whether Oneida Seven Generations Corp. eats it (or the taxpayers are "forced" to), a couple million bucks seems like a small cost compared to the quality of life issues that burning garbage on the shores of Green Bay gives every neighborhood and every business development opportunity in all of Northeastern Wisconsin - for seven generations to come!
