New London school district moves ahead with safety measures

New London police, educators respond to Newtown shootings

With the memory of the horrific school shooting spree in Newtown, Conn. still weighing on their minds, police and educators say the time to act is now.

Starting today, police officers will conduct random, daily walk-throughs at the schools, said New London Police Chief Jeffrey Schlueter said. In addition, efforts are under way to equip every school with at least one police radi.to improve response times and communication if a dire emergency arises.
