No time to be sentimental for Kaepernick

Jan. 8, 2013

49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was born in Milwaukee, lived in New London and Fond du Lac before moving to California when he was 4 years old and still has relatives living in Wisconsin.

Despite living in the state for only a short time, he was always a Packers fan.

“They were the only team I watched,” Kaepernick said on a conference call with reporters at Lambeau Field. “I remember growing up watching Brett Favre every Sunday.”

Now, Kaepernick is watching the Packers from a totally different perspective. He’s preparing to start against them in Saturday’s NFC divisional playoff game at Candlestick Park.

Kaepernick didn’t start the season opener against the Packers, a 30-22 49ers victory at Lambeau Field. He took over as the starter in November, and this is no time for sentiment.

“Right now, they’re the next team we play,” he said. “That’s what the situation is.”
