Packers sign C Gerhart, cut G/T Allard from practice squad

Jan. 8, 2013

The Green Bay Packers signed rookie center Garth Gerhart to the practice squad on Tuesday while releasing offfensive lineman Shea Allard.

A 6-foot-1, 310-pound rookie out of Arizona State, Gerhart spent the entire 2012 season on the Cleveland Browns' practice squad after signing with them as an undrafted free agent in May.

Gerhart, who's the younger brother of Minnesota running back Toby Gerhart, appeared in 39 games with 35 starts during his four seasons (2008-11) at Arizona State. He'll wear No. 72 for the Packers.

Garth was a member of the offensive line that helped Toby establish the California state career rushing record while at Norco (Calif.) High School. Their father, Todd, was the team's coach.

Allard, an undrafted rookie out of Delaware, spent training camp with the Packers before being among the team's final roster cuts earlier this season. He was signed to the team's practice squad on Dec. 5.
