Happy New Year! We would like to take a moment to thank our adopters, volunteers and donors for a very successful year. South Wood County Humane Society helped 568 pets find new forever homes in 2012, 114 more animals than 2011.

Despite the economy, our fundraisers generated more money than in years past. A special thank you to our generous sponsors - because of their support, every penny spent at an SWCHS event directly benefits the animals at our facility.

The Humane Society is gearing up for a busy 2013. Many educational seminars, volunteer trainings and fundraisers are in the planning phases. We are kicking off the year with one of our beloved annual fundraisers.

Join us for a day of winter fun on Jan. 26 during the Humane Society's Souper Snow Sculpture Spectacular at the Centralia Center in Wisconsin Rapids. Build a team or watch your neighbors and friends compete in the amateur snow sculpting contest. This year we are pleased to feature a special sculpting project created by local talent Rich Heinz and friends.

Registering a team is easy to do. Visit our website, www.swchs.com, download the form and send it in.

Come inside and warm up with hot soup from local restaurants, beverages and sweet treats while listening to live, local acoustic bands.

Many special pets will be looking for forever homes at Snow Sculpture as well. If you've been looking to add a new furry friend to you family, be sure to stop by and visit our Pet Adoption Center. Many great raffle baskets will be given away, and Humane Society merchandise will be for sale.

All proceeds benefit South Wood County Humane Society, which helps us give high quality care to animals most in need. Please keep your fingers or paws crossed for the snow.

For more information about this event, call the Humane Society at 715-423-0505.

Help SWCHS with just a click of your mouse. The Animal Rescue Site's Shelter+ Challenge has begun again. As you might remember, SWCHS has won several grants during the past couple of years. Go to www.theanimalrescuesite.com and click Shelter+ Challenge. Remember to vote daily and encourage your family and friends to do the same. Every click counts toward helping an animal at our facility.

2013 is the year to get involved with SWCHS and help homeless pets find forever homes. Stay tuned for more information about upcoming events and opportunities.

Bridget Chariton is executive director of the South Wood County Humane Society.
