Jan. 16, 1963 - Historic Beaumont Hotel to be replaced by inn: The historic Beaumont Hotel, a downtown landmark for more than 100 years, is to be razed and replaced by a modern, 100-room motor inn, it was announced this noon by Carl Witteborg Jr., manager of the present hotel and president and general manager of Beaumont Inn, Inc.

Razing of the present structure, parts of which are 100 years old will begin in March. The new motor inn is tentatively scheduled for opening in June, 1964.

The new Beaumont Motor Inn will be constructed on the oldest hotel site in Wisconsin. Green Bay's first hotel, the Washington House, was built there by Daniel Whitney in 1831, and the Washington-Main Street corner has never been anything but a hotel location.

The original Beaumont House, built by Israel Beaumont and Alfred Pelton after the destruction of the old Washington House by fire, was constructed between 1860 and 1865.
