Oconto School Board to meet Jan. 21

The Oconto Board of Education will meet for its monthly meeting on Monday, Jan. 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room at the Oconto Middle School. A reminder that two board members will be present for a listening session in the special education office, three doors down from the board room, from 5:45-6:15 p.m. Non-personnel issues may be discussed at this time.

On the agenda for the regular meeting will be a presentation by Elissa Lucas on the fall Wizard of Oz musical, a presentation from OES on the Leader in Me data notebooks, approval of the Triton Cooperative agreement, a look at the preliminary budget for 2013-14, setting the sub teacher pay for 2013-14 and possible WASB resolutions presented at the state convention Jan. 22-25.

Policies receiving a first reading will include: school and community relations; tobacco, drug, and alcohol use on school premises; donations and/or grants; public complaints about instructional materials; relations with church and family; naming school district facilities and support staff hiring.

Policies receiving a second reading include: fourth- and eight-grade promotion; dismissal/resignation of support staff; student attendance guidelines; instructional staff salaries and hiring; staff development and evaluations; workmen's compensation; support staff work schedule; accounting system for fixed assets; gate receipts and admissions; depository; tax-deferred annuities; district credit card; payment procedures; accounting system; audit; safety inspection; emergency plans; accident reports; emergency school closings; tornado and severe weather emergencies; toxic substances, infectious agents and pesticides; security; AV equipment use; and rental and employee use of personal vehicles for school business.

Under second reading of policies will be the nutrition and fitness, facilities use, harassment/sexual harassment/bullying, sex offender notification, complaints about school personnel and complaint procedures, half- and full-time students, early admission to kindergarten, open enrollment, no release for private lessons, hazing, communicable disease and infection control, playground supervision, assistance for student alcohol and drug abuse, staff absences and tardiness, exit interview, dismissal and resignation of support staff, and courtesy cards. Approval of these policies makes them official policy immediately.

Resignations and hirings, if any, will be considered. Dr. Croney and the building principals will also give their reports.

The final agenda has been posted at each school. Public comments may be made on non-agenda topics by signing up before 6:30 p.m. the night of the meeting at the meeting site. If a person would like to address specific agenda items, the District Office should be contacted by 11 a.m. the Friday prior to the board meeting at 834-7814, ext. 4103.
