A commission tasked with finding ways to close Wisconsin's $2 billion transportation funding gap will recommend a combination of higher taxes and fees, including a 5-cent increase in the gas tax and vehicle registration fees based on miles traveled using an honor system.

The Transportation Finance and Policy Commission will release a report next week that recommends the Wisconsin State Legislature take steps to generate an additional $479.5 million annually to help the state keep up with road, bridge, airport, transit, bike and rail maintenance projects.
