Flu hospitalizations up in Wood County

More than half in hospitals are older than 65

Almost 40 people have been hospitalized and one person has died in Wood County as a result of influenza-related complications this flu season, health officials say.

More than half of the 36 hospitalized people, including the person who died, have been 65 or older, said Diane Rodd, Wood County Health Department nurse. The number of hospitalizations is 50 percent higher than the total for the entire season last year.

The county Health Department hasn't recorded many flu-related deaths in the past, but that doesn't mean there haven't been any, Rodd said. An adult could die from pneumonia or ...
