Members of the Wisconsin Rapids Water Works and Lighting Commission soon might need to be city residents and only serve a maximum of two, five-year terms.

As part of a series of requests pertaining to the makeup of the five-member panel that oversees the city's water and electric utility, the City Council approved a city residency requirement on a 7-0 vote, with Council President Jean Young abstaining as acting chairwoman. A request to create a two-term limit for panel members passed 4-3, with council members Marion Hokamp, Tom Rayome and Bob Nash opposed.
