Like many kids his age, Tristin Wipfli wants a dog.

The 8-year-old Bellevue boy has been diagnosed with schizencephaly, a rare birth defect that affects the right side of his brain and causes seizures.

Now his family is working to raise $13,000 so that he can get a specially trained dog that can alert them when Tristin is about to have a seizure and stay with him during the process to make sure he's in a safe position. The dog can also help with the boy's stability, because the seizures have weakened the left side of Tristin's body. ...
