Authorities believe a 31-year-old Antigo man's medical condition may have been a factor in a one-vehicle fatal crash Thursday afternoon in Shawano County.

James Galarowicz was alone in a pickup on Wisconsin 45 near Field Street when he hit a tree, according to the Shawano County Sheriff's Department. Officers responded at 4:18 p.m. and rescue efforts were attempted before Galarowicz, who was seriously injured, was pronounced dead.

Galarowicz was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, authorities said.

Deputies were assisted by Birnamwood firefighters, paramedics and Shawano County Coroner Mike Jesse.

Birnamwood is located about 30 miles east of Wausau.

The investigation continues.
