Conducting duties for the Civic Symphony of Green Bay are officially up for grabs - or at least the baton is.
The Battle of the Baton Fundraiser will allow one local celebrity to conduct a work during the group's April 14 concert. Brian Niznansky, morning meteorologist at WGBA-TV, Channel 26; Tina Quigley, executive director of Arts Events Inc.; Green Bay mayor Jim Schmitt; and Lisa Malak, media/public relations coordinator for Prevea Health; are all in the running to do the honors. Voting by the public will determine who gets the gig.
Votes are $1 each and can be cast through April 1 at www.gbcivic.org; String Instrument Workshop, 147 N. Broadway, Green Bay; The Daily Buzz, 130 E. Walnut St., Green Bay; at the symphony's Feb. 16 concert at the Meyer Theatre; or directly with the contestants.
The winner will get a crash course in conducting and go through a rehearsal before taking the stage in front of an audience. Proceeds from the first-time event will help the symphony purchase percussion equipment.
