Is homelessness a choice or the result of circumstances beyond one's control? It is an international problem (refugees). It is a national concern due to joblessness and insufficient pay, as well as personal issues. And it is our community's opportunity to think as boldly as the situation is big. Where is the Brown County Board in this solution?
Many of the folks who are homeless come to the city because it is impossible to survive in the outlying areas. Where are the village boards in offering to assist as many are likely from their areas? One thing is for sure: fining St John's for being morally compelled to accept more people than they are licensed for will only put them out of business and create a worse city situation. I look for progressive responses not punitive reactions. I hope you do, too, and step forward with creative ideas.
