The dismantling of Stone's Building Center in Wausau is under way.

The 124-year-old wooden building at 102 Bridge St. was a throwback to the area's early days in the lumber industry. Stone's closed Aug. 31 after the store's owner closed the tool, tile and lumber business.

The city of Wausau is having the historic building carefully dismantled in hopes of one day reassembling the building as part of a museum or educational display. A brick building that sits next to Stone's Building Center will be demolished. ...
