Name: Emily Halvorsen

Parents' names: Dr. Rod and Patti Halvorsen

School: Roncalli High School

Year in school: Senior

GPA: 4.0

What extracurricular activities have you been involved with during high school? I played basketball my freshman and sophomore year and played tennis all four years.

What is one academic accomplishment about which you feel particularly good? Maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout my years in high school.

Which class or extracurricular activity influenced your decision regarding the career you plan to pursue? Science and math courses influenced my decision for my future career. These two subjects are my favorite, therefore I want to continue to learn and use them.

What advice do you have for those just starting their high school career? Enjoy it because it goes by fast. Most importantly, make an effort to plan your time to include extracurricular activities, schoolwork and friends. Strive to do the best you can, by studying for tests and finishing homework on time.

What is one high school memory you think you'll still be talking about at your class reunion decades from now? The best high school memory I will remember forever is making it to team state for tennis. The experience was dramatic and nerve racking, but accomplishing it with my teammates and having fun created memories I will never forget.

What are your plans after high school? I plan to go to college to study biology. I am undecided among a couple different schools as to where I would like to attend. After graduating college I plan to attend medical school to become an ophthalmologist.

Teacher recommendation: What makes this student stellar? "Emily Halvorsen is a hard-working student with a drive for success. Her determination and focus on her goals make her a stellar student. Emily is a student with an inquisitive nature and settles for nothing less than her fullest potential. In the classroom I have found her to be on task and ready to share her knowledge. On the tennis court, Emily is a determined athlete with a drive for success and a true sense of sportsmanship. These qualities set Emily on a path to success in college and beyond. Her work ethic and values make her a good example of the mission of Roncalli High School." - Stephen Waak, English teacher
