10 YEARS AGO: Members of the Spencer Fire Department responded to a fatal car-train crash near the intersection of West 26th Road and Highway 13 in the town of Spencer. The incident is the fourth collision at that crossing since 1995.

Pittsville Elementary School celebrated National Hat Day. Second-grade teacher Jeannie Pavlik used the holiday as a theme throughout the school day for her students.

25 YEARS AGO: Colby firefighters were resting after battling a barn fire that burned all night in the city of Colby. Colby Fire Chief Mark Rannow said he had no idea what might have started the barn fire at the Dan Froeba farm on East Spence Street on Friday night.

50 YEARS AGO: The Colby Southwestern Telephone Co. and The General Telephone Co. of Wisconsin have filed a joint application with the Wisconsin Public Service Commission for authority to sell and buy all the lines of the Colby Company. The Colby Co. is a switching line company southwest of Colby.

75 YEARS AGO: Organization of the Marshfield Safety Council was effected at the recent meeting at the city hall. Al Hestekind is president and August Keller is secretary.
