You'll never know when "You'll Save a Life!" You can do it when you come to the Blood Drive at Hope Lutheran Church on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at 260 Vincent St., Fond du Lac.

A unit of whole blood can save up to three (3) lives because it can be separated into three distinct products. The average adult has about 10-11 pints of blood. During a whole blood donation, about one pint (2 cups) is drawn. They are red cells which carry oxygen and have a shelf life of 42 days, after which they cannot be used. Platelets help the blood clot and have a shelf of five days. Plasma impacts blood pressure and carries nutrients and cells throughout the body.

To meet the needs of the BloodCenter of Wisconsin, 800 donors need to be seen daily. Remember this blood and blood products are needed to serve the patients in over 56 hospitals in Wisconsin. Our goal is to see 50 donors.

To make an appointment to donate blood at Hope Lutheran church, please call 922-5130 or 926-9636 or you may make an appointment on line at BloodCenter of WI; or call 1-877-232-4376. Walk-ins are always welcome.

To ensure a great donation, donors should drink plenty of water, have a snack before giving and don't forget your picture ID - it's required.
