It began in the fall of 1981 when an office mysteriously appeared in the school's Arts and Communication building at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Its occupants, Steve Boettcher and Mike Trinklein, were the producers of the student-run television show, "This Week." They decided, the summer before their senior year, that the show needed an office. In August 1981, they found an old storeroom, kept the best furniture and scrapped the rest, changed the locks, had keys made and put their names on the door.
