This is part of an ongoing weekly series. Each Wednesday, the Daily Tribune will feature a local collector and his or her collection. Send an email to Deb Cleworth at deb.cleworth@cwnews.net or call 715-422-6730 if you have an interesting collection or know someone who does.

Name: Priscilla Benner, 75, Nekoosa

What she collects: Benner's collection of more than 100 dolls includes items from the Danbury and Franklin mints.

The collection is comprised of numerous icons - Shirley Temple, Elvis Presley, Jacqueline Kennedy, Anastasia and Coca-Cola dolls.

How she started: A gift from Benner's sisters commemorating a special event in Benner's life 26 years ago initiated the collection.

"They got me a boy doll when my grandson (Trinity) was born," Benner said. "It was just sort of cute."

Benner later purchased a girl doll, and the start of the collection was born. She wasn't sure she would continue the collection, thinking she might sell those items she did buy.

She never has sold any of her collection, and Benner has purchased all of the dolls herself since receiving the first as a gift.

Favorite in the collection: Her favorite dolls are from the "Gone with the Wind" series. Scarlett O'Hara, Mammy and Prissy are some of the dolls from that collection.

"That was my favorite book, so I got those dolls," she said.

How the collection is displayed: Benner chooses to display just a couple of the dolls, which are in glass cases.

"That's Scarlett O'Hara and Anastasia," she said.

Most of the dolls remain unopened in their original boxes, which can increase the potential value of the doll, Benner said.
