Unemployment edges up in Fox Valley

The Oshkosh-Neenah metro area's unemployment rate increased from 5.5 percent in November to 5.7 percent in December, according to data released Wednesday by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

The Appleon metro area's unemployment rate increased from 5.3 percent to 5.7 percent in December, as well. Both figures remain below the statewide rate of 6.5 percent reported for December.

The city of Oshkosh's unemployment rate increased from 6 percent in November to 6.3 percent, good for 19th highest among 32 cities the state tracks. The city of Racine had the highest unemployment rate at 11.9 percent.

The data is based on monthly unemployment insurance claims and a survey of about 1,450 households. It is not seasonally adjusted and is subject to significant revision.
