Cold-weather dredging prepares marina

Work should be completed in plenty of time for tourism season

Dredging in the Algoma Marina continues in an effort to restore water depth for safe boating navigation.

Dredging began in late December and is about 50 percent complete. Dependent on weather, dredging will continue through January and February for a target completion of March 1. The company performing the dredging is Iron Works Construction, Baileys Harbor, owned by Mike Cole.

An increase in silt and organic materials deposited in the harbor and decreased lake water levels have combined for the perfect storm of problems and complaints from boaters in 2012. The conditions of the marina ...
