Almost 3 inches of snow fell in the Stevens Point area Friday.

According to Ploverweather.com, which is run by Tim Bubla, the average snowfall total for January is 11 inches, so the area is about 7 inches below that average.

The area hit its high temperature of 20 degrees at just after noon Friday.

The National Weather Service out of Green Bay is forecasting sunny and clear conditions today with a high temperature of about 20 degrees.

The National Weather Service out of Green Bay cautions drivers that condition maybe hazardous Sunday afternoon into Monday morning, when the area could be blanketed by freezing drizzle and light snow.

New snow means winter areas are open in Stevens Point and Portage County. The Iverson Park Winter Sports Area includes two 300-foot-long toboggan slides, three sledding hills and a snowboard hill, an outdoor lighted recreational ice skating rink, warming lodge and cross-crountry ski trails.

The ice rink at Georke Park also is open.

Standing Rocks Park in rural Portage County offers downhill and cross-country skiing.
