Violent crime dramatically increased in Green Bay last year and that uptick has at least one local official calling for additional police officers.

Police reported 262 violent crimes from January to June 2012 in Green Bay, according to the most recent data compiled by local authorities. That is up almost 65 percent from the 159 such crimes reported during that same period in 2011. Those crimes include robbery, forcible rape, aggravated assault and homicide.
