Trucks pull in and out of Country Express on a gray, snowy day - drivers stopping to take on food for themselves and fuel for their trucks. Dozens of parked tractor-trailers sit in orderly rows on one end of the lot of just off Wisconsin 172. Some idle with drivers inside, others are silent.

It's a scene reflective of an industry recovering from a hit it took during the Great Recession, when thousands of companies folded and independent drivers exited the profession. Now, some drivers who survived the lean years say things appear to be stabilizing in the industry - one that continues to see a need ...
