Competitors in archery, downhill skiing say mental prep key

The sports of Alpine skiing and archery differ in many, many ways.

Alpine skiing is about speed and adrenaline. Archery is about calmness and relaxation. But the two sports share one thing in common: Both value the brain as much as brawn.

The point was made Saturday at the Badger State Winter Games. About 200 archers gathered throughout the day at the clubhouse of the Rib Mountain Bowmen in the town of Maine to compete. Fifty skiers raced the slalom course at Granite Peak Ski Area in Rib Mountain. Competitors of both sports said mental preparation was important to success. ...
