Crawling out of bed at 4:30 a.m. isn't something most high school students would look forward to doing.

But the Bay Area Ice Bears co-op girls hockey team knows those Wednesday morning practices at 5:30 will pay off down the road.

After losing two straight sectional final games by one goal, first-year coach Pat Rafferty felt some additional ice time would be crucial for the young squad, which is 13-5-1 and is ranked seventh in the state by Wisconsin Prep Hockey. ...
