Persistence, and a little toilet paper, finally paid off Saturday for the Snow Owls tribe in the fire starting competition of the 4-H Camp TaPaWingo Survivor Winter Camp.

"I got some sparks," exclaimed Green Bay's Regan Cavanaugh, 8, about 10 minutes into the activity, as she repeatedly and vigorously scraped a magnesium block fire starter with a pair of scissors.

But, alas, no flames to light the cotton that was the starter material provided by the camp counselor. That was, until one of youngsters, 10 minutes later, came up with the idea to try toilet paper. ...
