Name: Gavin Schneider

Parents' names: Scott and Pamela Schneider

School: Valders High School

Year in school: Senior

GPA: 3.5

What extracurricular activities have you been involved with during high school? FIRST Robotics, which stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science & Technology"; SMART Team (Students Modeling a Research Topic), football, golf, Solar Olympics, Peer Helper, Project Mini-Chopper, prom court, homecoming court, honor roll. Also employment: The Heater Body Suit - sales and accounting, and information technology tasks for the Valders Area School District

What is one academic accomplishment about which you feel particularly good? One academic accomplishment that I feel particularly proud of is being able to maintain my GPA while also being involved in many extracurricular activities as well as working while taking a challenging course load throughout high school.

Which class or extracurricular activity influenced your decision regarding the career you plan to pursue? After taking multiple courses at Valders High School, such as Computer Aided Design, and Electronics I, II and III, and by participating in the FIRST Robotics program that our school offers, I knew that I wanted to do something in the engineering or technology field. Had I not participated in these classes and programs, I would have had a much harder time deciding on what career path to follow.

What advice do you have for those just starting their high school career? I encourage students to try and challenge themselves throughout high school. It takes hard work and determination as well as a constant drive to do better in order to succeed but it will only better prepare one for the future.

What is one high school memory you think you'll still be talking about at your class reunion decades from now? One high school memory that I will always remember is getting together with friends throughout the day and getting to know what's happening in each other's lives throughout the school year.

What are your plans after high school? After high school I plan on going to college at either the Milwaukee School of Engineering or the University of Wisconsin-Platteville to earn a degree in engineering or a technology-based field. I also would like to minor or double major in a business field.

Teacher recommendation: What makes this student stellar? "I have had the opportunity to work with Gavin in electronics, Chemistry II, physics and on the robotics team. He is academically a very talented student with a great work ethic. His solutions to problems are well thought out and his willingness to stick at a problem until it is solved is noteworthy. He is a great asset to our robotics team and is a fantastic addition to class." - Jim Evans, chemistry, physics and electronics teacher and lead mentor of Droid Rage 3381 robotics team
