Snow sculptors compete for charity, fun, bragging rights, cash

The sound of saws and hammers blended with laughter and music outside of the Centralia Center on Saturday.

The eighth annual South Wood County Humane Society Souper Snow Sculpture Spectacular was underway and the 12 teams that each were creating a sculpture were hard at work, carving, coloring and creating.

The teams included businesses, families and nonprofit groups, such as First English Congregational Church, whose team chopped away at a 6-foot-square block of snow. The First Congregational Team's design highlighted the church's upcoming Empty Bowls event, a fundraiser for local ...
