Motorists in downtown Green Bay will need to avoid part of Cherry Street for the next 10 days or so.

City officials said a contractor will be closing Cherry Street near the Jefferson Street intersection starting today. The closure will be from Jefferson Street to the alley between Jefferson and Madison streets.

The street will remain closed while crews place a crane on the street for ongoing work on the outer face of the State of Wisconsin District Office Building.

The street closure is scheduled to continue until Feb. 8.
