Musical maestros: Grine family has music, education in blood

Had it not been for one clinician at a high school band festival, the state of orchestral music in Oshkosh could have been completely different.

Geri Grine had dreams of becoming a doctor, but that changed after she was selected as a member of Hawaii's state honors band in high school. There, she saw the passion a university professor had in working with students and knew that was what she wanted to do with the rest of her life: Bring the gift of music to others.

She broke the news to her family that a career in medicine was no longer in her sights; that instead she wanted to pursue music. ...
