Ammonia leak at American Orthodontics in Sheboygan reported to be fixed

A leak from an 1800-gallon tank holding anhydrous ammonia on the city's north side caused fire and police officials to close down the streets around the American Orthodontics facility on North 18th Street for more than an hour Tuesday afternoon while it was repaired.

Around 1:08 p.m., Sheboygan firefighters responded to a call from an employee at the site, 1536 N. 18th St., who smelled a toxic odor. Two hours later the problem was resolved, without any injuries.

Within minutes of the employee's call, ambulances and fire trucks surrounded the site blocking off access to 18th and 19th streets, ...
