Stevens Point Area Public Schools Superintendent Attila Weninger said Monday that when asked about the possibility of closing Kennedy Elementary School, he had and would continue to make the argument on its behalf.

"This school needs to remain open because of the caliber of teachers and staff," Weninger said. "As far as I am concerned, John F. Kennedy Elementary is here to stay."

Weninger and other school and state officials celebrated with parents, staff and community members as Kennedy Elementary marked its selection as a 2012 Blue Ribbon School. The award is given annually by the U.S. ...
