Good news for Wisconsin's economy means bad news for some long-term unemployed.

The federal government has notified the state that its lower unemployment rate means Wisconsin no longer qualifies for federal emergency unemployment insurance, which extends the benefit to 63 weeks from 54 weeks.

An estimated 10,500 workers who have been unemployed for more than a year will start losing benefits the week of Feb. 9, according to an announcement from the state Department of Workforce Development. ...
