Boys hockey: Wisconsin Rapids at SPASH, 7 p.m. Thursday: The meeting is the first of the season between the Wisconsin Valley Conference rivals looking to stay in the hunt for a conference title. The teams will square off twice this week - the Raiders will host the Panthers on Thursday. This game was originally scheduled for Dec. 20 but was postponed by inclement weather. Each team boasts two of the top five scorers in the Valley. Rapids' Caleb Schroer leads the conference with eight goals and six assists for 14 points. Matt Edwards has 11 points, while SPASH's Jake Jaworski (12 points) and Matt Dufresne (10) rank third and fifth, respectively. The teams play at Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday.

Girls basketball: Marathon at Assumption, 7:30 p.m. Thursday: The Royals (14-0) are are the No. 1 Division 5 team, while Marathon (14-1) is ranked seventh in Division 4 in the latest AP poll. Assumption rolled to a 70-45 victory on December 11 in Marathon and could open a two-game lead in the South Division standings with a victory. Mary Sigler is the No. 2 scorer in the league, averaging 15.4 points per game, while Natasha Hanke leads the Raiders with 10.6 points per game.

Boys basketball: Marion at Port Edwards, 7:30 p.m. Friday : The Blackhawks could make a jump in the Central Wisconsin-10 standings with a win over the Mustangs. Marion is 9-4 in the league and in sole possession of third place, while Port (7-5) can move up a notch with a victory. Jacob Joslin and Chris Montag are averaging 12.6 and 11.3 points per game for Port, while Marion's Aaron Hoffman is scoring 15.6 points per game. The Blackhawks posted a 73-65 win at Marion on Dec. 14.
