Road crews expect to clear roadways and spread about 1,400 tons of road salt today to ensure the safety of Marathon County drivers.

The National Weather Service on Tuesday issued a winter storm watch for Marathon County, effective until 6 p.m. today, bringing with it up to 6 inches of snow, less than a day after freezing rain prompted school closures and delays Tuesday, canceled Gov. Scott Walker's visit to Wausau and caused a multitude of crashes throughout the area.
