A 56-year-old Oshkosh man was arrested for his sixth drunken driving offense and resisting an officer after he ran away from police during a traffic stop Wednesday.

Joe Nichols, spokesman for the Oshkosh Police Department, said a Oshkosh Police officer tried to stop the man at 7 p.m. Wednesday as he was driving in the 800 block of Division Street because the vehicle had a suspended registration. The man pulled into a driveway, got out of the vehicle and began walking away from the officer. He then began running.

The officer was able to catch up to the man and determined the man was intoxicated.

The man was arrested and taken to jail for resisting arrest and for a sixth drunken driving offense. He was also cited for operating a vehicle after revocation, operating after suspension, displaying unauthorized license plates and having open intoxicants in the vehicle, Nichols said.
