What good is sitting alone in your room?

Come hear the music play.

Life is a Cabaret, old chum,

Come to the Cabaret.

- Cabaret

Yes indeed, people have come to the Cabaret, and this year marks the 35th annual Cabaret Performance sponsored by the Spencer Music Department.

The curtain rises on this year's performance at 1 p.m. Sunday. It is Super Bowl Sunday, but you should be home in plenty of time to catch the opening kickoff.

Instead of sitting in your room catching all the pre-game hoopla, make your way to the LuCille Tack Center for the Arts and catch two hours of beautiful sounds put forth by the Spencer High School Music Department. There is no admission. Just bring your music-loving soul and sit back and soak in USA homegrown music. The senior emcees will take you on a "road trip" as you bask in the sounds of the wonderful music brought forth from this great country of ours. You will be entertained by soloists, bands, choir and handbells. Hang on to your hats and buckle your seatbelts. Who knows what is up the sleeves of the Class of 2013 musicians.

Take yourself back to the time when you were driving along with the top down and the radio blaring out tune after tune. Picture yourself cruising down the highway with the wind whipping through your hair (if you had any). When the journey ends, you will leave the performance with a huge smile on your face. Memories of days gone by and maybe even some recent tunes will be dancing in your head. Heck, you might even forget about that football game happening later on in the day.

Prior to the performance, the Spencer Music Parents will host a Souper Bowl Luncheon. On the menu will be three hearty soups to warm your insides. A salad smorgasbord, desserts and beverage will complement them. The luncheon will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger. Profits from the luncheon support scholarships and music equipment.

Life is a Cabaret, old chum,

Only a Cabaret, old chum,

And I love a Cabaret!
