Village officials approved Monday night a redevelopment district in the Shopko Plaza and Pavilion Park area of the village.

At the Village Board meeting, representatives from MSA Professional Services presented a draft of the plan, which includes both major and minor upgrades to the Shopko Plaza - renamed Pavilion Marketplace - and Pavilion Park areas of the village. The estimated $15 million plan will take about 30 years to complete and will add landscaping along village streets and commercial and residential multi-use buildings to the marketplace area.

To help boost business and pay for the upgrades, the new district will use the businesses' property taxes for physical improvements to the buildings and surrounding area. The taxes typically would go to the D.C. Everest Area School District, Northcentral Technical College and Marathon County.
