Burglaries on rise in Stevens Point

Police officials say they're not entirely sure why burglaries have been increasing lately.

Stevens Point had 131 reported burglaries in 2012, 46 more than it did in 2011. Some of the totals can be attributed to a serial burglar caught late last year.

"My immediate question is, why the jump?" said Stevens Point Police Chief Kevin Ruder about the numbers. He attributes some of the jump to a rash of burglaries in which burglars were targeting student housing after their occupants left for spring break. ...
