Wausau residents who thought back in early January that they would miss out on typical winter weather got a heavy dose of cold and snow by the end of the month.

Wausau had two days when the temperature didn't break zero degrees and more than 14 inches of snow fell in the final week of the month, according to the National Weather Service in Green Bay.

"It was a kind of a month that the weather has been back and forth," said National Weather Service meteorologist Pat Hein. "That isn't too unusual." ...
