Each week, Press-Gazette Media will recognize outstanding prep basketball achievements with the American Family Insurance all-Press-Gazette Media performances of the week. Here are the selections for the week of Jan. 28 to Feb. 2.
Boys basketball performance of the week
Travis Voigt combined for 50 points to help N.E.W. Lutheran rally for a pair of victories last week and remain unbeaten. The senior scored 11 of his game-high 29 points in the fourth quarter, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with a minute remaining, to rally the Blazers to a 69-64 nonconference victory against Reedsville on Jan. 29. The 5-foot-8 guard then scored a game-high 21 points in powering N.E.W. Lutheran (19-0) to a 69-63 comeback win against Algoma on Jan. 31.
Girls basketball performance of the week
Southern Door's Cheyanne McFarlin scored 26 points and surpassed 1,000 career points in a 51-34 win against Sevastopol on Feb. 1. The senior guard went 7-for-13 from the field, including 4-for-7 from 3-point range, in addition to making five steals. She also recorded 23 points in going 7-for-11 from the field and made five steals in a 52-38 victory at Gibraltar on Jan. 29.
Honorable mention boys performances
Sevastopol senior Cody Giesseman scored 14 of his game-high 31 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to help the Pioneers rally from a nine-point deficit and beat Gibraltar 50-48 on Jan. 31.
Denmark junior Ryan Havlovitz tallied a game-high 18 points, making a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Vikings a 61-60 victory against Luxemburg-Casco on Jan. 29.
Gibraltar senior Matt Hecht posted 24 points and 15 rebounds to propel his team to a 59-51 victory over Crivitz on Jan. 28
Pulaski junior Luke Van Lanen scored nine of his 18 points in the fourth quarter to help the Red Raiders rally from second-half deficit and win at Green Bay Southwest 45-35 on Feb. 1.
Honorable mention girls performances
Green Bay Notre Dame senior Brianna Byrne tallied 11 of her game-high 17 points in fourth quarter of a 53-36 victory at Green Bay Southwest on Jan. 28.
Oconto junior Laken James scored eight of her game-high 15 points in fourth quarter break up a tie game entering the final frame and lead teh Blue Devils to a 45-37 win against N.E.W. Lutheran on Feb. 1.
Kewaunee senior Kelsey Stangel posted 12 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks in a 48-36 win against Algoma on Feb. 1 to help the Storm pull even with the Wolves atop the Packerland Conference.
Peshtigo's Teja Tonn made a game-winning basket as time expired to give the Bulldogs a 31-29 victory and hand Coleman its first Marinette-Oconto Conference loss of the season on on Feb. 1.
